Scope of Practice
Children and young people of all ages are seen, from babies of a few months of age to the adolescent and young adult.
They may have, or be suspected of having:
• Special educational needs
• Developmental and learning difficulties
• Specific learning difficulties
• Severe and complex multiple impairments
• Neurological impairment
• Acquired brain injury
• Behavioural difficulties

Support is offered to:
Children, Parents and Families in order to assess a child’s ability and achievement, diagnose the reason for difficulties being experienced by the child and provide advice for overcoming those difficulties. Advice can also be provided in relation to finding the most suitable school for the child and in the assessment of the child’s Special Educational Needs under the Education Act 1996 (Statementing procedures).
Nurseries, Schools and Universities in order to advise in relation to aspects of the education of pupils and students with special learning needs.
Doctors and Therapists in order to offer a psychological opinion on a child or young person, to verify a diagnosis made following consultation or to provide support directly to the child or young person and his/her family following diagnosis.
Solicitors, Barristers and The Court in order to provide an expert psychological opinion in personal injury and clinical negligence actions. |
